 Mirasol Lymphedema & Rehab Center Las Cruces NM USA Staff is wonderful. The therapist (Peter Ternedde)is very knowledgeable about lymphedema. He is also the only certified MLD massage therapist in the area. He also let me borrow a video tape on self massage and bandaging. He is working to help me be able to self-manage the condition once it is under control. The exercises are vey helpful. Plus he plans to have a Lymphedema Management seminar to teach clients self-massage and bandaging next month (January). He also started and helps sponor the local Lymphedema Support Group.

The thearopy took a time period of two weeks. The clinical work is a process of 2 sessions a day. The results of the sessions were overwelming withinthe first week. Participation of the spouse is a must for me as my lymphedema is in my leggs. Even if no spouse is available someone should accompany to help on those days when the massage and the wrap is required quite exstensively through out your life.

Had a kitchenette if you wanted to bring your meals while waiting. Since I lived so far away I had a morning and afternoon session for two weeks to complete my treatment. That was two years ago. Trying to find a place in Vero or Ft. Pierce to go again.

Used compression sleeves by day and bandaging by night.I also purchased a Reid Sleeve at a cost of $1,400.00. I may be the best way of controlling drainage, however, it is very difficult to sleep with.Unfortunately, Lymphadema Services in New York City is now closed and to my knowledge nothing has replaced it in New York City.

ODSP has refused to pay for the treatment and so far I am over $3000 in debt to her. Due to the legislation in the Provincial Government, there is no funding for this specific kind of therapy. Which is crazy because ODSP has paid for everything else except for the actual treatment. Her name is Barb Osinga, and her number is 519-432-4375. My family and I are forever indebted to her for what she has done for us.

If my leg had drained like they wanted, they would then think about surgery. At that time, we moved to Texas. I am still interested in this treament, but now I'm in Texas.

 Carle Clinic Urbana IL USA I started here just after my mastectomy. My doctor recommended that I get a compressive sleeve first. Then I was sent to a Physical Medicine Doctor. He had me fitted with a compressive sleeve that was made to measure for me ( the first was nearly over the counter simple). Then he had me go to the therapy unit for pump treatment. I seemed to respond well to that, so he prescribed a Wright pump. I have used that for the past four years. Recently I heard that they had added manual message to their list of services. I am just finished with a week's treatment at that facility. I went to the Clinic each morning for massage. Then compressive bandaging was put on my arm. I left it on for the rest of the day and went back in the next morning for a repeat performance. They would really rather I had continued for 2 or 3 weeks. I, however, found that I could be away from home only so long. (Carle is about 100 miles from my home.) I did feel that the treatment was good. !

I knew that I was there to have the fluid moved from the right side of my body to the left for it to drain out of my body. He was concerned that I might have trouble with him working on my breasts. I explained that I was there to have him help me and I thought that was one area that he would be working with so I had no problem with him. I was given several choices of therapy. After speaking to Angelo I choice him because he listened to me and what my concerns were. I found the experience very comfortable. He asked that I record all my reactions to the massage so that we can see if it worked for me.

I went there for my breast cancer surgery and treatments, so when my arm developed lymphedema, I went back to the doctors there. Although the therapist was good, getting in only 1x week to see her for only 1 hour was challenging. There is only 1 person in the entire Cleveland Clinic certified in Vodder technique. I did not get enough manual lymph drainage. I did get a glove and sleeve but my condition never went down to a close to normal level. The whole idea was to go through the process so I could get a glove/sleeve prescription.

I started treatment with her just a month after some swelling in my hand was noticable. I wear a compression sleeve and have had a custom gauntlet made that covers my fingers to the end digit. Since the medicare prescriptions for treatment expire in one month, I usually have treatments of 1-2 a week for that time. Then Mrs Reed has given me a 13 Step MLD Home Program to follow. By doing the home program plus my husband massaging the area I cannot reach, my lymphedema has been kept more or less under control. I do not see the oncologist very often anymore, and it is difficult to get prescriptions. When my arm becomes sore, uncomfortable and I am unable to lessen the pressure, I obtain another prescription and return to Jennifer for treatment. Since my surgery was recent (March 1998) I have not visited any other clinics. In fact, Poway is !

 Lymphedema Theraphy Woodbury Ny USA I just had a consultion and made a treatment plan for 20 days of therapy. We are waiting to see if the insurance company will pay it. If not... I guess there is nothing else to do. I found the staff very nice and aware of this problem. I have had the sypmtions for 3 or so years but now I finaly have a diagnosis.

I would indeed go back again if my insurance would pay and if it were closer to my home. A 6 hour drive is not always a do-able thing. I would recommend them at the clinic - they were wonderful.

However my insurance company rejected the referral and I had to stop going because I could not afford to pay for it myself. The therapist put me in touch with a compression company and I was able to buy a breast unit myself. I would go again and recommended it to a friend. However, I will not be able to because of insurance reasons.

 NorthWestern Memorial Hospital Chicago IL USA The lymphedema started on my left inner thigh. I had surgery to remove the mass on the 30th of August. They ended up taking about 11 to 15 lbs. of tissue and fluid. I was there for three more days. The staff was wonderfully understanding, and my Doctor helped me through it.

Did not have needed support at home. Husband supportive at 1st but it came out later that he hated wrapping my"fucking legs". I have a CFS leak and cannot bend over for the length of time it takes to wrap legs myself. New DR.with the changed medical plan does not beleive in mannual lymph drainage. Will not refer me th have my legs massaged. Now in the "Providence Hospital"PMG group and they do not have a clinic or treatments for lymphedema available. Legs in trouble. Need new garments. etc. No refferal to get them.

Soon after my therapy was completed, I was fitted for a compression arm sleeve and glove by a company called Northern Vascular Support. I found them to be very accommodating and helpful.

 Total Health Care Westbury NY USA I have found them to be the first place I've gotten real help for my Lymphedema. They did a 28 day program including manual drainage, wrapping and exercise. They then taught self wrapping, stockings and self-massage to continue therepy. If found success for the first time. I use the Lympha-press before but it just push the fluid up to go back down. The manual drainage actually seem to help move the fluid out.

There are very inadequate numbers of treatment facilities and qualified therapists in the Phoenix area. I am trying to persuade other facilities to start or expand treatment. I am a nurse, and a community activist (can you tell?)

We do not know exactly how long I have had this condition, because it started out mildly and then about 4 years ago got much worse. I have been to many different doctors, but none of them can seem to find the cause. I have the lymphadema throughout my entire body. The OT has been very encouraging and we have worked together on nearly a daily basis. She has taught me excercises, but we have not done any bandaging as my torso is so blocked, she feels that the bandaging will not do much good.
