Subject: Levels 13 & 6 (and a little on 46)
jessy, I think joe means that in the starting position there is only one pair of gold trees in which one tree is in the cell directly up from the other one. And he's saying that you have to move the top gold tree into the lower left area where there are three gold trees below and near the Pocoman at the beginning.

Level 6: Try starting with these moves: drddddlDruuuLD

Level 46 is one of my favourites. I was stuck for weeks. I got it eventually, but I've forgotten how. This is quite intricate, but the more time you spend on it the more you get to know it and learn what you can and can't do. It's fun because there are lots of approaches you can try and many ways to move tokens around in different areas, back and forth. I don't think many people would get it quickly, so persist with it and experiment for a few weeks at least.

hi. i cannot do level 13 & message 68 didn't help! I do not know what joe means by a "grouping of two flowers in which one flower is directly on top of another. It is the top flower which needs be pushed into the lower left section." By 'flowers' does he mean gold trees? Or does he mean in the section of x's where the trees turn into flowers (but where there is only one flower at the start)?

Elly, to start you push the falcon next to the Pocoman down, then to the right into the bottom section. Then go up into the middle section from the bottom, then up into the top section (to get there you obviously have to push some falcons around). See how you go from there.

From memory you can get 4 candles from the right section to the X's on the far left pretty easily, and then one candle from the bottom section to the X second from left at the top. After that you have to cram the remaining 2 candles in the left section into the bottom section so you can push them up. The difficulty is in finding an arrangement in the bottom section that enables you to cram them in and then get them all out again.

This is the solution I mentioned that doesn't use the area in the bottom right to get a hammer out of the way. The solution in the hint book does put an extra hammer down there, and it requires 67 pushes altogether. The solution that follows is 65 pushes. Upper case letters are pushes.

You need to manipulate the 3 sextants at the bottom right so you can get past them. That's the only way to push each sextant on the other side one cell to the left and then to the X cells. I think one of the three has to be pushed up into the middle area, but doing that can make that area too congested if you aren't careful. I think I had to move some sextants around in the middle area before blocking off the entrance at the bottom (with one of the other two sextants at the bottom right so you can get through to the left).

I don't know how they are created, but I agree there's a beauty in some of them similar to some chess or mathematics problems. Wait till you get to level 30. The top section of that is a work of art, IMO. Still on the right section of level 28, it is actually possible to do it without moving an additional token into the right-bottom area to get it out of the way. I didn't do it that way, but I have a solution in which the token at the bottom right (your N5) is not moved at all until the very end, when it is pushed left and up to complete the puzzle. This solution also has fewer pushes in total. So those who have done this level might consider it a challenge to solve it without moving N5 to the right, and I'll post the solution in a few weeks.

Thanks a lot!!! I got it. Even I cheated (used your help) I still admire the beauty of the solution! I wonder how they create the puzzle lay out. There must be some rules in place to make the lay out solvable - I hope. In that case the generation of a lay out could be automated (create an algorithm). I was wondering if there is much interest behind that idea. If we create a freeware then we could have indefinite number of layers...? Does anybody know any of these rules?

I've found the moves I wrote down for this level and I took roughly the same approach as you. Do the same moves except try M8 instead of L8. You can get M9 to N5 but you have to do a few other things first.

I'll explain the notation I use. I record only the pushes, not the moves. Choose the most convenient side to identify the token to be pushed : Left, Top Right or Bottom. Then count the tokens from that side to the one to be pushed. If Top or Bottom, count the tokens left to right, one row at a time. If Left or Right, count top to bottom one column at a time. Then record all pushes in succession for that token. For example, here are my pushes for level 28 up to the point you are at: T2D (2nd token from left at the top, which is your M11, push down once). T2R2 (2nd token from left at the top, which is your M12, push right twice. Note that T2 is now a different token because T2 last time has moved down). R3L4 (your P8, push left 4 times). B2R2 (your N5, push right twice). B1L2 (your L5, push left twice). This is where you are at, with slight differences, so I won't go further, but one of my moves later in this level is L1U4R6D3L2 (push left-most token up 4, right 6 etc.). This notation can be tricky because you can't tell what any move means without knowing the positions of all the tokens at that point, but it's very compact and it's quick to write and read because you only have to count a few tokens instead of every row and column from a single reference point, which is sometimes far away.

David:
Thank you for answering my e-mail. I completely agree with you on the GM.
I concentrate on the right part of the puzzle (level 28). Looks I do the only possible moves but they lead to dead end. My anotation is from lower left corner - in X are the letters and in Y are the #s. I include the walls too. So my moves are as follow:
L12-M12, M12-M10, M10-O11, O11-L8, L8-K5, K5-O5
And here I am stuck because the "!" sign from M9 is supposed to go to N5 and there is no way to do that.
Please help. I am really amazed how they designed that game - I am really addicted. I want to solve it - but that is what makes it beautiful. Thank you.
Bobbyz

Subject: Re: GM level 28
There are two independent sections to this level and both are tough. The left requires 30 pushes minimum to solve and the right requires 65. Which side are you stuck on? ***

BTW, I usually had to write down my moves for the GM levels that are two or more levels in one, because after you've finally got one section solved it's very unlikely that you'll get the others at the first attempt, so if you don't remember or didn't record how you did each section you have to figure them out all over again. It makes them much harder, but not in a way that I like. It's a pain having to write everything down, even if you devise a shorthand method of recording only the pushes so they can be repeated quickly. I think I'd enjoy these levels more if they were split into separate levels. They would just as hard to solve, but you wouldn't need a lot of tedious, unsatisfying work and repetition.
